About the Project
St Columba’s Derryvolgie is a long-established Church of Ireland parish serving families and individuals across Lisburn. The aim of this project was to create a website that reflects the heart of the church – welcoming, community-focused and accessible – while making it easier for new families to connect and get involved.
The previous site no longer reflected the life of the parish or the range of activity taking place throughout the week. This project focused on clarity, warmth and usability, particularly for people discovering the church for the first time.
The Approach
This was about far more than just updating a website.
The brief was to create a digital space that:
-
Feels welcoming to new families moving into Lisburn
-
Clearly explains Sunday worship and church life
-
Highlights the strong children, youth and community programmes
-
Works effortlessly on mobile for everyday use
The site structure was carefully planned around how people actually arrive – often searching for Sunday worship times, children’s activities, or community events. Language was kept clear and friendly, avoiding church jargon where possible, while still respecting the traditions and values of the parish.
Photography, videography and content were chosen to show real life at St Columba’s – services, events, children’s groups and the hall in use throughout the week – helping visitors immediately sense the atmosphere of the church.
Testimonial
“Sonshine Media understood what we were trying to achieve from the very beginning. The new website feels welcoming, clear and true to the life of our parish. It has already made it easier for people to find us, understand what we offer, and feel confident about getting involved.”
– Reverand James Boyd, St Columba’s Derryvolgie
What We Said
“This was a project rooted in community. St Columba’s isn’t just a Sunday church — it’s a hub of activity throughout the week. The design needed to reflect that lived reality, not just the building. Every decision was made with families, volunteers and newcomers in mind.”
— Simon, Sonshine Media
